In an interesting turn of events, two villages find themselves involved in a fight for a buffalo. The people of Belimallur village of the Devanagere district and Haranahalli village of Shivamogga district. The issue was reportedly solved by Sri Odeyar Channamallikarjuna Swamy of Herikal Mutt in Honnali town.
Swamiji has advised both the leaders of the village as well as the mutt devotees as the decision of fighting over a buffalo is not appreciable and conducting a DNA test for the buffalo is against the tradition. He made the villagers touch the deity and promise to settle the issue.
Villagers of both the Villagers had vowed not to conduct a DNA test and settle the dispute harmoniously. "Let Goddess Marikamba Punish whoever is the culprit," they pledged.
At last villagers of Haranahalli agreed to hand over the buffalo to Belimallur village.
The majority of people thought that if blood is collected from the Buffalo for a DNA test, buffalo would lose its sacredness and the Goddess will be angry on them.
Honnali Circle Inspector Devaraj told that they will hand over the Buffalo to Belimallur village, once it's released from the Vidyanagar Goshala.
