The situation in Afghanistan went upside down in a span of just days due to the Taliban taking over the country. Reports claim that the troops are terrorising people in Afghanistan.
Adding more troubles, the UN food agency said that the people in Afghanistan are facing a food crisis with the majority of people finding it difficult to get food.
As per the reports, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) estimated the situation in Talibanized Afghanistan and said out of every three people, one person is facing scarcity of food.
Quoting Afghanistan director of World Food Program, Mary Ellen McGroarty as saying that the factors like severe drought, followed by Covid and the changes in the economic factors had called for a food crisis.
As per the estimations of the UN Food Agency, around 14 million people are unable to gather food. The percentage of people who are facing scarcity of food has increased rapidly post the Taliban take over.
Listing out the other factors that needed the attention more, McGroarty said on top of scarcity of food items, more than 40 percent of crops were destroyed.
She said, all these factors are resulting in people facing a lot of difficulties in gathering food items.
Expressing concerns over the winter season that is fast approaching, Mary Ellen McGroarty said in order to deal with the crisis and to import the food items it would cost around USD 200 million.
Appealing to the donors and other nations, she requested one and all to understand the situation faced by people living in Afghanistan and come forward to help them.
Having said that, she said the main task of the food agency is to see that people in Afghanistan won't face any issues with the availability of food items and the food is made available to counter the food crisis, the burning issue in the war-hit Afghanistan.
The crisis in Afghanistan will not only impact the country alone, it would leave a heavy toll on the countries that depend on Afghanistan to import various spices that go into the respective cuisines of the nations.
