Update: 2021-02-01 13:40 GMT
Serving Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who assumed the Finance Minister's office on 31 May 2019, is closely associated with Andhra Pradesh. India's first full-time female finance minister's in-laws hail from Andhra Pradesh.

Nirmala Sitharaman married Parakala Prabhakar, who belongs to a noted political family. Her In-laws held key places in erstwhile Andhra Pradesh. Her father-in-law Parakala Seshavatharam served as Minister in Congress government, while her mother-in-law Parakala Kalikamba served as a Congress Legislator.

This made the people in Andhra Pradesh keep high hopes on the Union Budget. She is expected to shower funds and announcements on Andhra Pradesh.

However, the hopes of Andhra Pradesh and the people in the state didn't last long with the announcement of the Union Budget. Except for the poll-bound states, there was no place for AP in the union budget.

Along with Andhra Pradesh, fellow Telugu state Telangana also faced a shock with the Union Budget. No allocations and announcements were made for the 29th state of the Country.

However, this is not the first time, Telugu States faced a shock with the Union Budget. After assuming the Finance Minister's office, Nirmala Sitharaman has delivered three budgets.

No significant announcements were made for the Telugu States in any of the three budgets. The budgets are adding fuel to the arguments that, the Central governments will not give importance to the Southern states.

After the Budget sessions, social media is flooded with memes and jokes for not mentioning the Telugu states in the Union Budget for the Financial year 2022.

On the other hand, four states which will have elections in 2021 got a major push for infra development in the budget. Nirmala Sitharaman announced Rs 1.03 lakh crore for Tamil Nadu, Rs 65,000 crore(West Bengal), Rs 95,000 Crore(Kerala). Assam was allocated highway construction works.
