UP Minister Kamal Rani Varun Dies Due To Virus

The deadly coronavirus has succumbed lakhs of people around the globe and it continues to grow bigger each passing day. Uttar Pradesh minister Kamal Rani Varun, who had earlier tested positive for the Covid-19, died on Sunday due to the infection at the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow. She was 62. Kamal Rani is the first minister in Uttar Pradesh to die after contracting coronavirus.

Kamal Rani was admitted to Shyama Prasad Mukherjee hospital on July 18 and later shifted to the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences. The minister was on ventilator support for the last few days.

"Saddened by the untimely demise of Smt Kamal Rani Varun, Cabinet Minister in the Uttar Pradesh Government. Well respected for serving people at the grassroots, she had also served as an MP in the Lok Sabha twice. My condolences to her family and followers," President Ram Nath Kovind tweeted.

As of now, 1,677 people have lost their lives due to the virus in  Uttar Pradesh. The state capital Lucknow is among the worst-affected with over 100 deaths next to Kanpur (202 deaths) and Meerut (108).
