Munugode Polls: MLAs want to campaign, but without the candidate

Update: 2022-10-19 08:14 GMT
In a further shock to the already beleaguered TRS, several party MLAs, key leaders and even grassroots level workers are showing no interest in campaigning along with TRS candidate for Munugode bypoll Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy. Several MLAs from neighbouring constituencies have reportedly told the TRS top brass that Kusukuntla is highly unpopular.

They reportedly said that there is considerable opposition to Kusukuntla's nomination. Particularly, there is disapproval for him as several key BC leaders were ignored. So, party MLAs have indicated that they would campaign for the party but without Kusukuntla accompanying them.  Some were so frank that they said that every time Kusukuntla opens his mouth, he ends up showing the party in poor light.

Many leaders complained that Kusukuntla is quite incoherent. During the road show before filing his papers, Kusukuntla repeatedly fumbled and mispronounced names. For KTR, he said Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao. Similarly for CPM leader Tammineni Veerabhadram, he said Tammineni Sretaram Thus, Kusukuntla became a laughing stock among the voters. Even KTR was so disgusted that he asked Kusukuntla to go to the back of the make-shift dais on a jeep.

Interestingly, Kusukuntla was chosen as the party candidate despite staunch opposition from the party cadre. District minister Jagadeeshwar Reddy strongly rooted for Kusukuntla's candidature. Now with complaints pouring in from all directions, the minister is in a fix, according to sources.
