As a token of strong ties between India and the United States, the United States President Joe Biden had extended his support for India's entry to the United Nations Security Council as a permanent member, besides a spot in the Nuclear Suppliers Group.
The crucial support from the United States came at the meeting between Joe Biden and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the White House during their first bilateral meeting. Mr. Modi is currently on a three-day visit to the United States.
Current Foreign Secretary of India Harsh Vardhan Shringla said Joe Biden supported the move while talking highly about the strong leadership displayed by India. According to him, the United States reiterating the support for the demand for the permanent membership of India in the Council sends a positive note about the ties between the two countries.
The support comes as a piece of good news for India as the country has been waiting for a change in its position in the United Nations. Every time the permanent members propose India as the permanent member, the dragon country China has been opposing the move.
With the United States supporting the proposal, the experts are confident that India will become the permanent number at the council. The United Nations Security Council has five permanent members currently, Russia, the UK, China, France, and the United States.
