The third phase of the ongoing vaccination drive against the deadly Covid-19 has started in several states in India. The third phase of the drive is aimed at vaccinating people above 18 years and below 45.
As the drive has started, star hotels are seeing this as a way to earn money. Few hospitals have collaborated with hotels to administer the vaccine and offered vaccination packages. This development has attracted the attention of the Union Government.
Seeing this as a violation of the Covid guidelines, the Centre has written to States/ Union Territories to take action against the hotels that are offering these special packages for the vaccinations.
In the letter, Additional Secretary to Health ministry Manohar Agnani maintained that the development of the packages from a few hotels has come to the notice of the Centre and called this a violation of vaccination guidelines.
The Ministry of Health and Welfare said the centre made four options available to carry out the Covid-19 vaccinations. The vaccinations should be carried out at state-run vaccination centre, or private Covid Vaccination Centre or Workplace Covid Vaccination Centre at the government offices or 'Near to Home' COVID-19 Vaccination Centres, the temporary centres set up to vaccinate elderly people and people with physical difficulties.
Saying that the four options were only the prescribed ways to vaccinate the beneficiaries, the Centre asked the States/ Union Territories to take action against these stars- hotels.
