Vanama's free-clothes fete boomerangs

Sometimes, the best laid plans to promote self go awry because of lack of planning and unwanted over-enthusiasm. Khammam MP and former union minister Nama Nageshwara Rao must have learnt this lesson the hard way.

On Monday, he celebrated his birthday. Normally the birthday of a politician in power is a big affair. Many people greet him and several cakes are cut. But, Nama's close follower and MLA Vanama Venkateswarlu's son Vanama Raghava wanted to make  it even more big. So, he organised a programme in Kothagudem where he had announced that new clothes would be distributed to the autorickshaw drivers. This was given wide publicity and over 300 autorickshaw drivers turned up for the function.

But Vanama Raghava was not prepared to handle such huge turnout. All he brought was about 25 to 30 pairs of clothes. So, he distributed the clothes only to the autorickshaw drivers who are close to the TRS. The others were left high and dry. They did not get anything. Angry auto drivers shouted slogans against Nama and Vanama and left the venue cursing. So, Vanama Raghava's lack of preparedness and over enthusiasm has proved counter productive for both Nama, Vanama and the TRS.
