Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu has been picked up as the Vice-Presidential Candidate of National Democratic Alliance. The decision was taken during BJP Parliamentary Board meeting chaired by PM Narendra Modi on Monday evening.
Amit Shah told Venkaiah Naidu is an unanimous choice and even NDA Allies have welcomed the move. 'Venkaiah Naidu ji will file his nomination papers at 11 AM on Tuesday,' he told.
BJP Leadership wants a South Indian to be its Vice Presidential Candidate as it wishes to strengthen its presence in this part of the country. Hence, Venkaiah Naidu who hails from AP emerged as a front-runner. He will be submitting his resignation to portfolios of Minister of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation and Information & Broadcasting very soon.
PM Narendra Modi opined Venkaiah Naidu's vast experience will help him discharge his duty for the important role of Rajya Sabha Chairperson. He described Venkaiah as a farmer's son who is admired across the political spectrum. He claimed to have always admired Naidu's hardwork and tenacity. 'A fitting candidate for the office of Vice President,' he opined.
Vice President Election happens on August 5th. Venkaiah Naidu will be contesting against Opposition's Candidate Gopalakrishna Gandhi. Term of current Vice President Hamid Ansari will end on August 10th.
