While Chandrababu Naidu's decision to ally with the Congress has caused shock and surprise within the party, it caused no less shock and surprise in the political circles outside.
Several party leaders have already threatened to leave the party if it aligned with the Congress. Chandrababu's best buddy and Vice President Venkaiah Naidu too has expressed surprise at Chandrababu's moves.
Venkaiah Naidu, who came to Vijayawada to attend a private function, said he was shocked when he learnt about this. He is reported to have exclaimed as to how the TDP could join hands with the Congress, which NTR always considered his arch enemy. He reminded that knowing his anti-Congress stance NTR did not campaign against him in 1983. He also sent his associate Daggubati Chenchu Ramaiah to convey his feelings to Venkaiah Naidu. He said he had waged a huge war against the Congress when it deposed NTR government in 1984.He reportedly recalled his long association with NTR during the Save Democracy movement in the backdrop of Nandendla Bhasker Rao and said that te TDP's very birth was rooted in anti-Congressism. He said the decision to align with the Congress would be a historic blunder.
