Venkaiah sworn-in as 13th Vice President

Venkaiah Naidu was sworn-in as Vice President of India Today. President Ram Nath Kovind administered the oath taking ceremony in the Durbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Venkaiah Naidu as Rajya Sabha Chairman by saying he is the first Vice President born in Independent India. He told Venkaiah have complete knowledge about the proceedings of the House because of his vast experience.

Modi opined Venkaiah Naidu, being a farmer's son, has always strived for upliftment of the poor during his tenure as Poverty Alleviation Minister. He gave credit to Naidu for introducing Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. He claimed appointment of a Farmer's Son as Vice President is a reflection of matured democracy in India.

Whereas, Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad appealed Venkaiah Naidu to be unbiased. He asked the new Rajya Sabha Chairman to focus on wisdom & justice rather than party and religion.
