Update: 2017-04-18 11:03 GMT
Liquor Baron Vijay Mallya was arrested by the Scotland Yard police in London on Tuesday after India issued an Extradition Warrant. He would be produced before Westminster Magistrates Court by evening. CBI was informed about the arrest of Mallya this morning.

In February this year, India sought extradition of Vijay Mallya citing loan defaulting to the tune of Rs 9,000 crore and money laundering. Several non-bailable warrants have been issued by Indian Courts since Mallya left the country last year.

After Mallya fled to London, Indian Government cancelled his passport and sought his deportation to India. However, British Government maintained Mallya could still stay in their country as he have a UK Visa. CBI filed a 1,000-page charge sheet in which it mentioned that Rs 250 crore loan obtained to buy aircraft parts was diverted to off shore accounts. Finally, UK Government responded positively to India's request and begun the process to deport him.
