Update: 2016-05-02 13:11 GMT
Liquor baron Vijay Mallya on Monday resigned to his Rajya Sabha membership. He has written to Rajya Sabha Chairman and the ethic committee confirming his decision to quit the Upper House.

Vijay Mallya has to replay debts to the tune of Rs 9,000 crore for various banks. A money laundering case has been filed against him and Centre wrote to Britain seeking the deportation of Mallya to India. Rajya Sabha ethic committee is looking into matter if the Liquor Baron's Rajya Sabha membership should be cancelled or not. Sensing that the decision wouldn't be in his favor, Mallya voluntarily quit to save his face.

On the other hand, Mallya is firm on his stand that returning to India at this point of time isn't a good idea as Media is playing a key role in moulding public opinion and influencing the government to a large extent. He fled to London on March 2nd this year? How long it would take for Indian Government to bring him back?
