Tamil megastar Vijayakanth put an end to all speculations on his party's alliance for the upcoming Assembly elections of Tamil Nadu. Vijayakanth -led DMDK on Wednesday struck an alliance with the four-party People's Welfare Front(PWF).Not only that the the actor-turned-politician declared as the chief ministerial candidate of the alliance.
As per the deal DMDK will contest on 124 seats and its alliance party the PWF - a combination of pro-Tamil Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam of Vaiko(MDMK), Vidhuthalai Chirutaigal Katchi(VCK), CPI & CPM will contest on 110 seats. Leaders of People Welfare Front met Vijaykanath at his party headquarters and a announcement was made by on this.
The move is considered a setback for Karunanidhi led DMK which had hoped to rope in the actor for alliance.Vijayakanth was also wooed by BJP.
DMDK floated in 2006 by Vijaykanth and the party contested in 234 seats in the state . All the candidates of the DMDK lost the elections in 2006 with the sole exception of Vijayakanth. Later the party won 29 seats in the 2011 assembly election and became the official opposition party with Vijayakanth as the opposition leader.
