The Greater Vizag Municipal Corporation removed the statues of Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Dasari Narayana Rao and Nandamuri Harikrishna established on the beach road last night. Tension prevailed for sometime when GVMC Authorities began the process of shifting the statues of prominent personalities.
It was AP Eduction Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao who unveiled these statues overnight at the behest of former Rajya Sabha MP Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad inspite of not having necessary approvals. Subsequently, GVMC Authorities served notices for violation of the norms.
Social Activist Bollisetti Satyanarayana moved High Court seeking removal of the statues. In March this year, A Division Bench of the High Court directed Officials to remove the three statues set up on the beach road in Vizag without taking prior permission.
