One more good news for the Visakhapatnam people. The shore city Vizag added one more feather to its cap by bagging an international award, that is awarded for the quality of the beach.

Going into detail, the Rushikonda beach in Visakhapatnam has been awarded the 'Blue Flag' eco-label with seven other beaches. The eco-label will be conferred to the beaches that have quality standards under four parameters, water quality, environmental management, environmental education, and safety.

Other than Vizag beach, Shivrajpur Beach(Dwaraka), Ghoghla Beach(Diu), Kasarkod, and Padubidri beaches(Karnataka), Kappad Beach(Kerala), Golden Beach(Odisha), Radhanagar Beach(Andaman and Nicobar Islands) were certified by Blue Flag.

The Blue Flag certification was started way back in 1985. The international non-governmental and non-profit entity Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) selects the beaches to promote sustainable development in marine areas.

Other aspects like providing information about the local ecosystem, environmental elements, and cultural site and arrangements like no industrial or wastewater sewage running into the beach will also be taken into consideration.

The shortlist of the Indian beaches that were sent to 'Blue Flag certification was prepared by the Beach Aesthetic Management Services (BEAMS) wing which works under the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MoEFCC)
