Karnataka Government has decided to make voting in panchayat polls mandatory. Even the Panchayat Raj Amendment Bill 2015 which makes voting compulsory in panchayat polls was passed in the State Assembly in March this year.
Later, The Panchayat Raj Amendment Bill was sent to Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala for his consent. Mr. Vala then sought some legal clarification from the State Government and he gave his assent to the bill after he got convinced with the agenda.
Panchayat Raj Amendment Bill 2015 make voting compulsory but violations willn't attract legal sanctions. It also brings into affect 50 percent reservation for women and None Of The Above (NOTA) option. The Amended Bill will be in force during the Panchayat Polls scheduled to happen by the end of May, 2015.
