Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy told the Assembly on Friday that the government is aimed at easing the burden faced by the poor and that is the reason why the AarogyaSri scheme was extended in the state. We are implementing the scheme if the treatment cost goes beyond Rs 1,000. The services offered under the scheme were also increased, he said.

Elaborating more on the scheme, the Chief Minister said that compared to earlier, the hospital count in the state increased rapidly and the Aarogyasri scheme is being implemented in other states too to enable the beneficiaries to take treatment. When the previous government did not take the scheme seriously, we are extending the scheme.

If required we will include more services under the scheme. To provide multi-specialty services, we will build new medical colleges in every Parliament purview. To take the scheme to the tribal areas, we have started the new teaching hospital. A lot of changes are being made to expand the services, Jagan said.

Keeping a special focus on children, we have ramped up the eye tests for children. So far 66 lakh eye tests for children have been done. New child care hospitals would be constructed in three areas. The Covid services and post-Covid services have also been included in the scheme. 19 labs were set up in the state that are dedicated for the Covid schemes, Jagan added.
