The municipal polls came as big shocker for YSRCP as the urban voters have bluntly rejected the party. The party suffered huge losses in several districts like East Godavari, West Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram , Guntur and Anantapur.
Jagans bastion Kadapa district also lost four out of seven municipalities to TDP.However, the party believes that these results would not reflect in general elections. Despite local bodies results favouring TDP, YSRCP official spokesperson Gattu Ramachandra Rao insists that TDPs hopes will be thwarted and that YSRCP will win the assembly elections.
The party's official spokesperson G Ramachandra Rao said, YCP's main strength lies in the rural areas and the results of civic body elections came as they have expected and that it will not be the same case with the general elections.
The spokesperson justified the results saying TDP has a stronger presence in the urban areas but expressed confidence it will be reverse when it comes to the MLA & MP elections. He even remarked that TDP had only five days to rejoice as they would surely lose in the assembly and Lok Sabha elections. On May 16, the party would meet to decide if Jagan has to be made the CM, gattu said
