Nipah Virus Sending Shivers Down South

The deadly Nipah Virus is now sending shivers down the spine of South Indians. Already, 10 people had succumbed to the virus in Kerala. Lini, a Nurse who took care of the Nipah Virus Patients, was one of the victims.

Nipah is a disease transmitted to Humans from Animals such as pigs, cats, monkeys and bats. This disease can spread from Humans to Humans as well. Humans affected by Nipah Virus will suffer from fever, headache and respiratory problems. Symptoms of Nipah Virus can be found between 5 to 14 days. If the virus is severe, Patients will slip into coma within 24 to 48 hours and then breaths their last.   

People in Nipah Area in Malaysia were first infected by this virus in 1998 and that's how it got the name. 105 people died in Malaysia because of this deadly virus. Later, It spread to Bangladesh. In India, This virus was first detected in West Bengal. All the four other Southern States are being alerted after virus began spreading in Kerala.
