There is a lot of interest about the BJPâs candidate in Badvel bypoll. The BJP has announced that Panatala Suresh would be its candidate from Badvel. This made many people ask as to who Panatala Suresh is. This young leader is relatively unknown, but has a long history of student activism and agitations.
Badvel is going to bypolls because of the sudden demise of sitting MLA Venkata Subbaiah, who passed away due to Covid attack. The YSRCP has fielded his wife Dasari Sudha as its candidate. The TDP and the Jana Sena have decided not to put up any candidate as part of the long-followed convention of allowing the kin of the deceased MLA to become MLAs for the remainder of the term. But, the BJP defied the convention and has put up Panatala Suresh as its candidate.
In fact, the BJP does not have much of a base in Badvel. Though it contested in 1994, 2009 and 2019 elections, it could never get more than 1 per cent of the votes. Suresh is new to Badvel. He did contest from Koduru assembly constituency and got just 1049 votes. He is quite active in the Sangh Parivar organisations and held various responsibilities in these organisations.
A young Dalit leader, Suresh has worked as the national secretary of the ABVP, the student wing of the Sangh Parivar and as the national secretary of the BJYM. He was arrested for 11 times and spent nearly three months in jails on peopleâs issues. It remains to be seen how he will perform and how many votes he would win.
