Everyone in AP knows how Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy defends the YSRCP government. His spirited defence, strong explanation and passionate arguments are well-known. He is in fact dubbed 'minister for all departments' for his knowledge of the affairs of each department in the YS Jagan government.
However, his recent statement on the issue of the YSRCP supporting the BJP government at the Centre has evoked derision from the detractors. He claimed that there is not one instance where the YSRCP supported the BJP on any bill. But, the facts bely his argument. The YSRCP has always been supporting the BJP and bailed it in the Rajya Sabha on many tricky occasions.
In fact, it was the YSRCP support that helped the BJP see through controversial bills such as the farm bills and the bills relating to the removal of Article370. Also, the party supported the BJP decision to fix meters to the farm motors. It is a no-brainer that the YSRCP had supported the BJP's presidential candidate Ramnath Kovind in 2017.
The YSRCP supported Kovind even while it was in the opposition and its rival - the TDP - too supported him. The YSRCP is now one of the staunchest supporters of BJP's current presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu. In fact, it is the YSRCP support that has tilted the scales in favour of the BJP candidate this time.
It may be recalled that YSRCP's Eluru MP Kotagiri Sridhar has recently said at Tirupati that the state benefited during the last three years due to the support it extended to the BJP. He said the BJP-YSRCP cooperation was an open secret. However, Sajjala is refuting all this. He says the YSRCP has not supported the BJP in any way.
