Amit Shah must be feeling proud of this woman. She is a Pakistani Hindu, who fled the country due to persecution. She was subjected to untold atrocities in Pakistan. But, after she entered India 18 years ago and became an Indian citizen, she is able to contest elections here,.

Nita Sodha, who came from Pakistan as a refugee, is contesting the gram panchayat elections in Natwara village of Rajasthan. Interestingly, she became in Indian citizen only four months ago. She is now contesting for the sarpanch post. Her father-in-law too is a politician and has encouraged her to join politics.  She says her life is more pleasant, happier and safer in India than in Pakistan, where she was subjected to atrocities and insults for being a Hindu. She said the Hindus in Pakistan were living under perpetual fear and oppression. She said she was contesting elections only because of the support of the locals.

Nita says she will fight for respect, honour and equal opportunities for women. She said. She said she was ever thankful to India for giving her Indian citizenship.
