The Congress, which once was the unquestioned king of the twin cities, is now a poor shadow of its former self. The party now has fewer cadres and far fewer leaders. The latest shock is the resignation of the city Congress chief Anjan Kumar Yadav. The party performed fairly poor in the recent GHMC elections getting less than 6 per cent votes and winning just two corporators. The cadre is now leaving for either the TRS or the BJP.
But, why is Anjan Kumar Yadav, a two-time MP and a long-time loyalist of the party angry? Sources say he is miffed at being sidelined while the party tickets were distributed. He was not even consulted while giving tickets. Many of his candidates were not even considered for party tickets. What moere his son Anil Kumar, who is now the national secretary of the Youth Congress, has been rejected when he sought a party ticket to contest. To add to it, there is intense groupism in the party.
Ahead of the GHMC elections, key Congress leaders like former mayor Banda Kartika Reddy, former MLA Bikshapathi Yadav, his son Ravi Kumar, former minister Mukesh Goud's son Vikram Goud and former corporator Mohammed Ghouse have left the party. All these have deeply affected the Congress performance. Anjan Kumar Yadav feels that if only the party gave him full powers, he would have shown his strength. Unhappy with the way the party is ignoring him, he has sent in his resignation to the Congress leaders.
