Why Are Senior Citizen Voters Reluctant To Vote?

Update: 2021-03-11 11:19 GMT
One major problem that the election officials and the political parties in the Hyderabad-Rangareddy-Mahabubnagar Graduates Constituency are facing is the extreme reluctance of the senior citizens  to vote. Among the graduate voters are a significant number of those above 60 years and they are showing no inclination to vote.

No…It's not a case of complete disenchantment with the political system. It has got to do with the Covid 19 scare. Many senior citizens are afraid of contacting the virus and getting infected if they go to the polling booths. Adding to their woes is the fact that most polling stations are a good 15 km away from their place of residence. As a result, the senior citizens are not interested in the commute. Even the efforts to make them go for postal ballots are proving futile. Most senior citizens are not interested in filling a slew of forms to exercise their right to vote through postal ballots. In some cases, the senior citizens are even refusing to talk to the officials and the representatives of various political parties.

In many cases, the politicians and the poll staff are meeting the senior citizens without the Covid 19 protective gear. This is putting them off. They are even refusing to meet such staff or political workers fearing that they could contact the virus if they speak to them.
