Normally silent senior TDP MLA Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary has raised a banner of revolt against the party's leadership. Six-time MLA Gorantla has not been unhappy over the goings on in the party for quite some time. Not one to violate party discipline, Butchaiah was keeping all to himself all these days.
Of late, he was finding that the party leadership, especially Chandrababu and Lokesh Babu, were not giving him the importance he deserved. Several times, he had called up Chandrababu and Lokesh, but both have reportedly not taken the call. Butchaiah felt that Lokesh was ignoring him. Hence on Thursday, he has suddenly announced his resignation from both the party and the MLA position. This announcement has sent the TDP leadership into a tizzy. Chandrababu immediately called up Butchaiah Chowdary and tried to console him.
There is another reason why Butchaiah was unhappy. In the 2014 elections, he was asked to contest from the Rajahmundry Rural seat to enable his arch rival Adireddy Appa Rao to make his daughter-in-law Adireddy Bhavani to contest from Rajahmundray Rural seat. The same story was repeated in 2019 too. Despite his loyalty to the party, Butchaiah was asked to fight from some other seat, while Adireddy family, known to change parties like it changes clothes, was given the Rajahmundry Urban seat. This has ranked Butchaiah to no end.
Meanwhile, Butchaiah has also tried to bring his brother's son Dr Ravi into politics. But, now it appears he has given up even this idea. On Thursday, Chandrababu Naidu made a hurried phone call to Butchaiah and requested him to call off his idea of resignation from the party. As of now, Butchaiah has not given any assurance to Chandrababu about his future moves.
