The International Cricket Council on Tuesday banned Shakib Al Hasan for the 2-year ban over the player's failure to report approaches over the bookie. WhatsApp conversations reveal the bookie had approached Shakib multiple times, including once during IPL 2018.
The ban comes as a huge blow for Bangladesh cricket ahead of their much-anticipated tour of India. Which comprises 3 T20 Internationals and 2 tests, which begins on November 3 with the shortest format. The Bangladesh Cricket Board said that the doors will be opened for Shakib Al Hasan once his ban ends. Shakib can return to International Cricket only from October 29, 2020, he will be out of IPL 2020 and T20 World Cup 2020.
The ICC Anti-Corruption unit had interviewed Shakib Al Hasan in January 2019 and in August 2019, the individual who has contacted Shakib is reportedly an Indian bookie, Deepak Agarwal.
