The TDP and the film industry are inextricably interlinked. In fact, the party was founded by a film star himself. From the launch, the party had several film personalities campaigning for it. Several like Rao Gopal Rao, Kaikala Satyanarayana, Murali Mohan and Jayasudha have held party posts. The likes of AVS, Raghavendra Rao and Boyapati Srinu helped the party with its high-profile campaign.
But, there seems to be some problem with the film heroines. None of the women film actors who joined the TDP appear to be happy. Many left the party, while some more are sulking. The latest to leave the party in a huff is actress Divya Vani. She was the official spokesperson of the party. She said she was being discriminated against in the party and that she was not being given an appointment. She made scathing remarks against the party while leaving.
Other heroines like Kavitha and Jayaprada too played a key role in the party for years and then left the party disappointed. Jaya Sudha was an MLA from Secunderabad. But, soon she was disillusioned with the TDP. She later joined the YSRCP. Actress Sharada was an MP for one term. She too retired from the party. Her daughter, though, is still with the TDP.
Another firebrand actor-turned-politician who had her time under the sun in TDP is RK Roja. She was so disillusioned with the TDP that she left the party and joined the Congress. Later, she followed YS Jagan into the YSRCP. In fact, she is now a minister in the YS Jagan cabinet. Thus, no heroine worth her salt stayed in the TDP for long.
