MPs!! Why Are You Not Spending MPLADs?

Update: 2018-08-26 10:23 GMT
The MPs are elected to work for the welfare of their people and their constituencies. But, rare are those, who really make a sincere effort to work for the people. One statistic will show how sincere the MPs  - both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha included - are.

The MPs are given Rs 5 crore every year to take up developmental works in their respective constituencies. These funds are called MP Local Area Development funds or MPLADs. Thus, a Lok Sabha MP gets Rs 25 crore in a five-year term and a Rajya Sabha MP gets Rs 30 crore.  They can take up school, college construction, road laying other works in their constituency. Records show that most MPs did not spend the allocated amount. The term of the 16th Lok Sabha will end in a few months.

But, the MPs across the country are yet to spend Rs 4769 crore allocated to them. Of this AP accounts for Rs 226 crore and Telangana accounts for Rs 101. Only three MPs from Telangana and five MPs from AP have managed to spend 90 per cent of their allocations. The MPs could very well have diverted the money for developmental works in their constituency. This lackadaisical attitude of the elected representatives is being slammed by one and all. Can't they spend the money allocated to them, the people are asking the MPs.
