"Though many perceive living alone as a Western phenomenon, I think it's an integral part of 'growing up'. While most Indians learn about it only when they hit their 30s, I feel that the need to be independent should be incorporated from a young age," says Lakshmi.
Speaking about the advantages of living alone, Lakshmi says, "You meet so many people and are constantly on the move. When you come back home, the last thing you want is to be nagged do this or don't do that. Also, you learn a lot from living alone."
"It makes you accountable and responsible. Right from the vegetable that comes into my house to the flower that grows in my garden, I'm accountable for every single thing. It also makes you wiser and in the process, you even learn how to save every penny of your hard-earned money," shares Lakshmi.
