Atheism is an ideology and the believers of it say that there is no God and they won't pray to anyone. The ideology has followers in many countries. Mainly western countries have these followers and they are even recognised as a special group. They usually stay out of prayers and religious events.
But when it comes to India, Atheists often make fun of Religious beliefs and traditions. Compared to other religions they only make fun of Hindu gods and traditions. Recently an Atheist who goes by the name Bhairi Naresh started a controversy by making objectionable comments about Lord Ayyappa.
This did not go well with Ayyappa followers and Hindu bodies. Protests were held against his comments and he was arrested by the Telangana cops. He was sent to custody reportedly.
As if it is not enough, another such controversy erupted. In the temple town Basara an atheist allegedly made objectionable comments against Hindu Goddess Maa Saraswati. His comments triggered wide protests.
Reports say that the call for a bundh was given by Temple priests and other bodies. Not happy with his comments, people are demanding his arrest. A few Right-wing bodies supported the demand and a bundh was followed today.
The Right-wing supporters raise doubt and ask what is making atheists pass unwanted comments. They say atheists are meant to stay away from religious prayers but here they are targeting the beliefs. They are also asking why the atheists are using BR Ambedkar's photo at the event.
Saying that Ambedkar embraced Buddhism and this makes him a non-atheist, the right is asking how come they can use Ambedkar's photo at atheist events and target only Hinduism. They also ask how come the so-called atheists won't talk ill about other religions. They also smell a conspiracy behind this.
