The swearing-in of Uddhav Thackeray in Maharashtra was not without some anxious moments. There are strong questions as to what will be his position in the Uddhav Thackeray Government, which is formed by the coming together of three diverse and highly ambitious parties. Questions are also being raised about whether he would be able to get along well with the other leaders of the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi especially after he rebelled against Sharad Pawar and then tamely surrendered.
There were some anxious moments ahead of the swearing-in as Ajit Pawar switched off his mobile and became unavailable. This led to lot of confusion and the party spokespersons had to put on a brave front by saying that though his phones were switched off, he was in contact with them. There were sighs of relief after he attended the swearing-in. Meanwhile, back in Baramati, Ajit Pawar's constituency, there were posters galore hailing him as the future chief minister. This too showed that the game is not over yet for Ajit Pawar.
Soon, some more ministers are likely to be inducted and it is being expected that Ajit would be made the deputy chief minister. If he is ignored and some other leader is given the post, the situation would again be on the boil. Many in the NCP feel that Ajit Pawar is still powerful and can wreck from within.
