While the Congress Party wants to appoint a Lingayat as the PCC chief so that it can take on Yediyurappa, who too is a lingayat. As a compromise, the party has offered the post of working president. The party reportedly  told him that since he is facing various cases, the party could face problems if he gets arrested again. But, Siva Kumar has indicated that he cannot accept any position less than that of the PCC chief.

Meanwhile former central minister KH Muniyappa too has thrown his hat in the ring and has indicated that he too is ready to take up the party president post.  There are several other claimants for the post. While Sivakumar's claim is the strongest, the party is in favour of a lingayat. The CWC will take a decision on Saturday on the issue. The political circles feel that Sivakumar would not keep silent if he is denied the post of the CWC chief.
