Will Telangana Chief Minister KCR learn the lesson from the cabinet rejig of his AP counterpart YS Jagan Mohan Reddy? Will he take up a complete shakeup like the one Jagan proposed, but did not execute or a partial rejig as Jagan has done? Or will he desist from taking up the cabinet rejig altogether to avoid all kinds of attendant problems?
Jagan's cabinet rejig has been a fiasco of sorts. Two years ago, he promised that a completely new cabinet would come into power after two-and-a-half years. But, after months of dillydallying, what one got was a 25-member cabinet with just 15 new faces. As many as 10 ministers, including strong leaders like Botsa and Peddireddy, had to be retained.
KCR too has been talking of a cabinet shakeup. In fact, there is a need as his daughter Kavitha has to be rehabilitated. She is out of power for far too long. Similarly, Rajya Sabha member Banda Prakash was made an MLC. He too is awaiting a ministerial position. Also, there is a vacancy due to the resignation of Eatala Rajender. But, a cabinet rejig at this stage could lead to dissidence and discontent among the party leaders. That's the last thing that KCR would want at this stage.
Yet other sources say that KCR could go in for snap polls and that the elections could be held somewhere around December. That being the case, there is no rationale for a cabinet rejig. He would as well continue with the same team for few more months. He also knows that a cabinet rejig could open a Pandora's box in Telangana. So, he could as well postpone the cabinet reshuffle indefinitely.
