Will Dr K Laxman be given another term as the Telangana BJP president? A section in the BJP is now claiming that the party's national leadership is thinking in terms of continuing Laxman for another term. This group claims that the partyâs national leadership feels that there was no use giving the presidentship to any other person at this juncture.
But, another group within the party is arguing that the party's constitution will have to be amended if Laxman is to be continued. The partyâs constitution allows only two terms for the president. If someone is to be given another term after completing two terms, the party has to make necessary changes in its constitution. In fact, there are many claimants to the top post in Telangana. National general secretary Muralidhar Rao, former minister DK Aruna, Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay, MLC Ramachandra Rao and former MLA Chintala Ramachandra Reddy are also vying for the top post.
But, the party's national leadership feels that Dr Laxman is a BC and this could be a useful thing for the party. He has manged to bring in several key leaders from other parties into the BJP. All these seem to have weighed in his favour, say BJP watchers.
