While everyone is thinking of TRS, BJP and the Congress in the municipal polls as the possible bigtime player, there is one more political player, who is highly underrated. This party is slowly climbing up the ladder and now wants to expand its footprint all over urban Telangana. This party is none other than the Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen of Asaduddin Owaisi.
MIM, which is banking on the considerable Muslim presence in the urban areas, wants to emerge as a king in many places and king maker in several other places. The party feels that it has a lot to gain in Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Adilabad, Nalgonda and parts of Medak. It is eyeing the all-important Nizamabad Municipal Corporation, where it is in the second position. It is currently holding the deputy mayor post and wants to win the Mayor post this time. Similarly, it wants to retain Bhainsa, which is already in its kitty. In Nirmal, Adilabad, Nalgonda, Miryalguda and Huzurabad, it can win quite a few seats. Even in small towns like Sangareddy, Bodhan, Korutla, the party is hoping to win maximum number of seats.
In other places, it will continue its tacit understanding with the ruling TRS and will transfer the Muslim votes to the TRS candidates. The TRS will split the Hindu votes in communally sensitive places to defeat the BJP. This will help both the parties and in the final analysis, both the parties will help each other to sweep the urban bodies.
