ISRO historical project Mangalyaan’s 300-day long, 680-million-km journey is coming to an end and the crucial tests that could make or break the mission begin now. Today MOM is going to face its first crucial challenge in order to achieve its expectations.

As part of landing procedures today at 2:30 IST around The 440 Newton Liquid Apogee Motor (LAM) engine now in an idle mode on the Mars Orbiter Mission for 300 days will be fired for about four seconds which, if successful, ISRO will go with further steps of landing procedure tomorrow. ISRO have Plan B if any case Plan a failed, It would be the firing of small thrusters alone for a longer duration. But that would be decided after September 22 if it is essential.

The mission will come to an end on September 24, the maneuvering of the spacecraft will begin around 7.30am. The spacecraft's speed will be reduced from the current velocity so that the Mangalyaan enters the Mars orbit. The project which started on Nov 5th of last year had taken almost 10months to reach Mars orbit.
