With just 19 days to go, will the Congress campaign take off in Huzurabad?

Update: 2021-10-07 02:56 GMT
With practically 19 days left for campaigning, the Congress campaign in Huzurabad is turning out to be a non-starter. The candidate, Balmuri Venkat, is a rank outsider who is based in Hyderabad. Though a native of Peddapally, he stays in Hyderabad and is involved in the NSUI activities. The way the Telangana Congress is handling Huzurabad is all set to end up as a blot on TPCC chief Revanth Reddy's career graph.

Firstly the Congress has picked the name of an outsider much against the recommendations of the Damodar Rajanarsimha committee, which wanted a local candidate to be given the ticket. Even former minister Sridhar Babu suggested that a local leader should be made the candidate. In fact, as many as 11 aspirants have applied for the party ticket. But the party finally gave the ticket to Balmuri Venkat from Peddapally.  As a result, there is lot of discontent in the party.

The first task before Venkat now is to quell the dissidence and then to plan his campaign. He has as many as 130 villages to cover within just 19 days.  The tour programmes of the party biggies too have not been finalized so far. It clearly appears that the Congress campaign is yet to pick pace. Practically, no major leader is camping in the constituency as of now.

Sources say that Venkat, a native of Tarepally in Kalwa Srirampur mandal, is an aspirant for Peddapally seat in 2023 elections. However, former MLA Vijayaramana Rao is also vying for the same seat. By shifting Venkat to Huzurabad, the party wants to clear the decks for Vijayaramana Rao to contest from Peddapally Venkat will be made to focus on Huzurabad.  The district Congress leaders have announced that Venkat would file his nomination on Friday.
