Will Ummareddy Become Ap Council Chairperson?

Update: 2021-05-29 08:31 GMT
Will it be a swansong for veteran of many political wars Ummareddy Venkateshwarlu? His term as the chief whip will come to an end as his tenure as an MLC is ending. Unless he is renominated, he stands no chance of getting any key post in the party. Interestingly, Ummareddy, who has earlier served as a Central minister during the NDA regime of Atal Bihari Vajpayee along with Bolla Buli Ramaiah, played a key role in TDP and Praja Rajyam Parties before joining the YSRCP.

Even in YSRCP, he was given lot of importance. His word carried weight and YS Jagan listened to him. In 2016, when the party got the first ever chance to make someone MLC, it chose Ummareddy. That's the kind of respect he commanded. His term as an MLC is coming to an end soon. After that he will be left with no position either in the party or in the government. Ahead of the 2019 assembly elections, his son-in-law Rosaiah was made an MLA. Now that Ummareddy's term is coming to an end, there are doubts as to whether he would be renominated. He is around 80 years of age and these days no politician is in positions of power at that stage.

But, sources say that Ummareddy is eyeing AP legislative council's chairperson's post. He is said to have met YS Jagan with a request to make him the council chairperson. The chief minister is said to be non-committal about the proposal.
