The ongoing Visakhapatnam Steel Plant privatising row has brought several forces together to fight against the Union Government's decision to disinvest the government's stake in the steel plant.

From Political leaders in Andhra Pradesh to Telangana and a few Tollywood celebrities raised their voices and urged the union government to withdraw their decision. Now, it's the turn of former CBI Joint Director, ex-Janasena member VV Lakshminarayana, popularly known as JD Lakshminarayana.

JD Lakshminarayana has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to oppose the government's move. In the letter, he highlighted the significance of the integrated steel plant and how it contributed to steel production in the nation.

He also highlighted how the steel produced in the Vizag Steel Plant had contributed to the iconic structures in the country, the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel statue, and the Atal tunnel. The steel plant produced 3200 tonnes and 2200 tonnes of steel for the statue and tunnel respectively.

In his letter, he also raised his concerns over the negative effects caused by giving the plant to private firms and opined that once the plant is privatized, the private firms will have control over the steel prices which will also impact the hike in the cost of the construction industry.

He took the examples of Bhakra Nangal Dam, Hirakud Dam, and Nagarjuna Sagar Dam, which stood as a backbone of the development of the agriculture field post Independence. He stressed how the Bhilai Iron and Steel Plant played a vital role in Industrial development.

The former CBI Joint Director urged the Prime Minister to not see the Vizag Steel Plant like any other plant and said the steel plant is the symbol of several sacrifices and hard work and opined that VSP will be the nation's pride if it is managed by the union government.
