Update: 2022-05-09 12:37 GMT
For the past few months, the island nation Sri Lanka has been going through a severe financial crisis as the prices of groceries and fuel have reached an all-time high. Unbale to deal with the crisis, many people are demanding the resignation of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

With the protests demanding the same turning intense and even the cricketers supporting the demand, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa had finally resigned from his position and stepped down as the Prime Minister, reports said.

The local Sri Lankan media said that Rajapaksa took the decision after considering the same advice given by the Sri Lankan President Gotbaya Rajapaksa. President was reportedly worried about the current situation of the nation and to deal with that he proposed the idea which was accepted by Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Now the big question faced by Sri Lanka is what to do next and bring the situation under control. As the opposition party made it clear that no leader from the party will take up the in-term PM post, the President is expected to make one of his Cabinet Ministers take up the post.

On the other hand, the protests have reached peaks as people want a solution to deal with the current crisis. To see that things don't go out of hand, the Prime Minister was asked to leave the office. Only time has the answer to the question of whether Sri Lanka can beat the current crisis or not.
