Women Hockey Player's Caste-based Attack

Update: 2021-08-06 07:10 GMT
Believe it or not, the caste system is a big social evil that creates unwanted barriers among people. We often read stories about people from particular castes being subjected to discrimination and abuse. The caste issue has reached a level that even the national level sportspersons are also not spared.

Going into detail, despite giving their best shot, the Indian women's hockey team ended their Olympics journey by losing in the semis to the Argentina team in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics.

After India lost in the semis, the family members of Indian hockey player Vandana Katariya were targeted by the locals at her village and they reportedly made casteist remarks.

As per the media reports, a few men from Haridwar's Roshnabad area gathered outside Katariya's house after the defeat and burst firecrackers. The Upper Caste men reportedly said that India lost in the semis for the reason of having too many Dalits in the team.

The development created a sensation with the upper caste men targeting a national player on the grounds of her caste. Vandana Katariya's brother filed a case against the men in this regard.

It is said that the police swung into action and arrested a man based on the complaint about allegedly making casteist remarks on sections of the SC-ST Act and section 504 of the Indian Penal Code.
