It was a sombre moment for Congress candidate for the Hyderabad-Rangareddy-Mahabubnagar MLC constituency election G Chinna Reddy. This soft-spoken former minister is known for his honesty and pro-people attitude. But, he not just lost the election, but also stood fourth - behind Left-backed independent Pro. K Nageshwar.
A deeply disappointed Chinna Reddy had one advise to the politicians - contest only if you have enough money to spend. He said the TRS has become a past-master in the art of buying votes. He said that it was sad to see that even graduate unemployed voters were ready to sell their votes for just Rs 1000. Instead of trying to get Rs 3000 as unemployment allowance, they preferred instant gratification through Rs 1000, he said. He said no one can match KCR's vote-buying skills.
In another significant statement, Chinna Reddy announced that he would not contest direct elections in future as it is becoming increasingly difficult to fight money power. He thanked T Congress working president Revanth Reddy for the support he had extended to him in the MLC elections.
