IT and IT-related sectors plans to promote work-from-office appear to be hitting a road-block. Though most It companies are planning to ask the employees to attend the offices from January or February 2022, fear of Omicron seems to be forcing them to revise their plans. The IT sector employees have been working from their home for the past year-and-a-half. If the Omicron assumes alarming proportions, the work-from-home could continue for some more time.

Companies such as TCS have informed their employees that they may have to work from home till at least mid 2022.  Few more companies too are planning to follow TCS. Though most of the IT sector employees have been administered both the doses of the Covid vaccine, there are fears that the Omicron variant could affect even the vaccinated employees. Also the spread of Omicran is happening at an extremely fast pace.

Also, there are reports that the Omicron variant could assume alarming proportions in the country between February and March. Hence, most of the IT sector companies are mulling work-from-office only after the worst is over. Business and trade analysts opine that the IT sector might work from the office only from mid-2022.

Meanwhile, most IT sector employees seem to be opting for work from home due to the obvious benefits it offers. There are reports that a significant portion of the employees do not seem to mind salary cuts if it means working from home. In any case, the work-from-office might pick pace only in the second half of the year.
