The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) successfully constructed the World's Highest Motorable Road in Ladakh region, Jammu and Kashmir. Constructing 86-km long road connecting Chisumle and Demchok Villages at a high altitude of over 19,300 feet against all the odds is commendable.
Newly constructed Motorable Road is about 230 km away from Leh. Both the villages are close to the India-China border in eastern sector.
Project Himank of BRO is behind constructing the World's Highest Motorable Road at such a challenging weather conditions which are even life-threatening. While the temperature will be around minus 10-20 degrees Celsius in peak Summers, It will drop to minus 40 degrees in the Winters. Oxygen level would be 50 percent less than normal places at high altitude. Because of these factors, The efficiency of the humans and machines decrease by 50 percent. Those who operate machines need to come down after every 10 minutes for Oxygen. Breakdown of Machines is another big challenge.
Members who took part in the mission faced health issues such as memory & eyesight loss, and suffered from high BP as well. That's the kind of sacrifice those BRO Personnel made in the best interest of the Nation.
