Worst Time For Tech World: More Than 1.5 Lakh Employees Sacked!

Update: 2023-01-04 10:50 GMT
When the Covid pandemic hit us and brought everything around the world to a standstill, the way the workflow functions changed massively. The work From Home module became the new normal for us and employees were asked to work from their homes so that they can stay away from the Covid virus.

Not just work but even education also became online. School and college students were taught online through Google meets. The education section almost became a big business as online education companies started offering courses. The sales of smartphones and tabs increased.

It was a golden period for IT employees. As they were working from their places leading tech giants took new employees in big numbers. A few giants like TCS and Cognizant made some records in taking a new workforce.

Besides the situations, the massive projects they received also played a key role in forcing the IT employees to go for hiring in big numbers. The craze and chances for IT employees were such that they used to hold two jobs.

While working for their respective companies the IT employees also accepted other projects in their free time. The policy is called moonlighting. A few IT giants opposed this and also sacked a few employees for doing multiple jobs.

The bubble that was formed during the Covid outbreak started bursting now. The situation became normal and the workload on the tech giants also decreased. The companies also reduced their dependence on freelancers so the moonlighting policy also started losing its popularity.

On top of this, global issues like possible recession and the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war also left a huge impact, and the tech IT giants are said to be seeing a dip in the projects they receive. So the need to have a big workforce is not there for employers.

With no need for this, employers are reportedly focusing on removing the extra workforce. As per the data, more than one and a half lakh employees lost their jobs in 2022 alone. All the employees who lost their jobs are from the tech sector.

The data says that Meta sacked 11,000 employees, Amazon and Sisko sacked 10,000 and 4,100 employees reportedly. Even in India employees working in various sectors lost their jobs and thousands of people are believed to have turned unemployed.
