The way the Andhra Pradesh government is imposing taxes on every service provided by the government is attracting a wide range of criticism from the critics and common people as well. A few videos that went viral recently show housewives questioning the logic behind imposing taxes on garbage.
As if the criticism was not enough, YSRCP MLA Dharmana Prasada Rao backed the decision and asked how the service can be given to the public if they don't pay for the same.
Addressing the gathering at an event, Dharmana said, there is nothing wrong in charging taxes for the services provided by the government. Not just supporting the practice, the MLA said, if the garbage tax is not paid, then the garbage from the houses which don't pay the taxes will not be taken.
"We are charging just Rs 100 as the garbage tax. Is that wrong? Why is so much ruckus being made around it? The garbage from the houses who don't pay the taxes will not be collected and the garbage shall be dumped in front of their houses, then they will understand," Dharmana said.
The Andhra Pradesh government recently brought a Government Order imposing a tax on garbage. Based On the size of the entity and house and the area the establishment is located, the tax amount varies. Starting from Rs 100, the tax amount goes up to Rs 10,000 maximum.
