Young ABVP worker to be fielded as BJP candidate from Badvel

Update: 2021-10-06 14:48 GMT
It is now becoming increasingly clear that there would be polling for the Badvel assembly bye-election. Contrary to the hopes that there would be no contest and that YSRCP candidate Dasari Sudha would be elected unopposed, the BJP and the congress have decided to put up candidates.  Interestingly, both the TDP and the Jana Sena have decided not to nominate candidates for the bypoll.

The Congress has decided to field former MLA Kamalamma as its candidate. Kamalamma is well-known in the constituency and that party is hoping to put up a decent show in the elections. As for the BJP, it could never win more than 2000 votes in Badvel. In the last assembly elections in 2019, the BJP got just about 700 votes, which were lesser than two independents and NOTA.

But this time, it has decided to field P Suresh as its candidate. Suresh is a well-known ABVP leader in the region and has held national level posts in the student organisation. He is also closely associated with the RSS and has very good relations with several top RSS functionaries. Suresh has no previous experience of politics and electioneering.

But the BJP hopes that it would be able to garner more votes this time as the TDP and the Jana Sena are not in the fray. Diehard anti-YSRCP voters might vote for him and thus his vote share could show a spike.
