If there is one person who deserves the actual credit for Hyderabad Metro Rail, Then it's got to be none other than former CM late YS Rajasekhar Reddy. Why because, The project became a reality because of the farsightedness of the Maha Neta who believes such mass transportation at a rapid phase is the only way to address the traffic issues in the capital city.
During the period 2005 to 2007, Officials of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation toured Hyderabad to prepare a detailed project report after receiving an invitation from YSR. In the first phase, Three corridors covering a total distance of 73 km has been finalized. A plan was chalked out for Metro Rail in the routes - LB Nagar-Miyapur (29 km), JBS-Falaknuma (15 km) and Nagole-Rayadurgam (29 km). YSR's role in obtaining the necessary clearances for the prestigious project in a swift manner cannot be ignored.
In June 2008, Hyderabad Metro Rail Office was inaugurated and Tenders had been called. YSR Government decided to complete the project using Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode. Maytas bagged the tenders of Metro Rail but Government cancelled them after the Corporate crimes of Satyam Ramalinga Raju got exposed. Later, Global Tenders were invited in a transparent manner. That's how L&T came into the picture & accomplished the project successfully after almost 8-9 years. Decide by yourself...if not YSR, who else deserves the actual credit of Hyderabad Metro Rail?
