YSRCP's latest headache: Rebels call the shots in panchayat polls

Update: 2021-02-17 12:52 GMT
The biggest problem that the ruling YSRCP's MLAs are facing these days is the fear of rebels. The rebels are not only defying the diktats of the elected MLAs, they are in fact fighting elections and are winning them too. In many places, the rebels are ensuring the defeat of the official candidates by splitting the votes.

In many villages, the rebels are actually dictating terms and in most cases, the MLAs have been forced to fall in line. In places where the MLAs tried to assert themselves, the rebels are showing them who the real master is. For instance in Prakasam district, ministers Balineni Srinivas Reddy and Adimulam Suresh too had to face the rebels issue. In constituencies like Darsi, Kanigiri, Giddaluru and Kandukuru, rebels are calling shots. In several places, the rebels have won the elections. It is another matter that they are rejoining the YSRCP later.

In some places like Kodumuru, where the sitting MLA Sudhakar and constituency incharge Kotla Harshavardhan Reddy are at loggerheads, the TDP was the beneficiary. In Kodumuru, the YSRCP won 33 seats, while the TDP won 19 and the others, who mostly included rebels, managed to win 10. In Chittoor district, however, Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy has got several rebels suspended from the party.
